At FogLine Visuals, much of our work is with founders building AI and software companies after careers at organizations such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta. The experience someone brings into a new company is a natural part of what we ask about on The Bay Signal.
For Mehdi Taifi, founder and CEO of Zèya, that path runs through fintech: an early role at Robinhood and later serving as Chief Risk Officer at Alpaca. It gave us a different set of experiences to explore on camera, from working inside financial technology companies to building a consumer marketplace.
FogLine Visuals produced the episode in San Francisco, with Francisk Hanchar hosting. Published on October 30, 2026, the conversation runs 1 hour, 10 minutes and 49 seconds and moves from Taifi’s background in finance and at Robinhood into the work of building a consumer marketplace.
Research gives the interview a direction
Taifi also worked at BNY Mellon and Deutsche Bank. His current company, Zèya, lets people discover nearby items and make offers with goods, cash or a combination of the two.
The conversation explores where that idea came from and what makes the marketplace useful. Topics include finding the first users, local inventory, marketplace density, marketing channels and AI-assisted listings.
These are useful entry points for an interviewer because they connect a broad company story to decisions a founder can explain through experience. The discussion can move from what the product does into how the business is being built.
Producing a long conversation people can follow
For FogLine, The Bay Signal is a continuing video podcast production. We bring together preparation, the interview, camera coverage, lighting, audio and editing to give each guest’s story a coherent form.
A sustained founder conversation benefits from both consistency and curiosity. Viewers should be able to follow the speakers comfortably while the discussion has room to move into a new example or a follow-up question. Production supports that attention throughout the episode.
The interview as a lasting founder asset
The published episode has a dedicated home on The Bay Signal, connecting the guest, the company and the conversation. That makes it something a founder can point to after a meeting or share with people who want to understand the work in more depth.
The subjects also suggest different editorial excerpts: the origin of the company, the first users, or a specific product decision. Those are potential uses of the conversation; they should be chosen for the audience and the completeness of the answer.
